Summary
Here’s a summary of our Open Studio Session for September. I talked briefly about taking an enforced break. I’d pre-planned and scheduled a few emails and a couple of social media posts. I was also able to answer emails after a few days, and really, I don’t think anyone noticed that I did no ‘work’ for three weeks.
Apart from myself, of course! It’s easy when you take time off to be drawn to what everyone else is doing, comparisonitis is real and especially when people start sharing their prolific summers I perhaps wasn’t ready for the ‘back to school’ bell that rings loudly on the 1st September.
When I wasn’t officially working, it was easy to feel left behind.
The best antidote I find is talking with others, a problem shared and all that, but there’s nothing that will silence the inner critical voice quicker than another person listening and saying ‘Oh yes, me too, that happens to me as well’
We covered a lot in today’s call, patriarchy is alive and well, awards are only valuable if they mean something to you and why I start planning for next year in September
